Self-Quarantining? Brighten your home for the Spring!
March 19, 2020
If you’re self-quarantining and have grown tired of your routine, Two Maids & A Mop can help you deliver a reboot. Even in trying times, a bright, clean home can have a positive impact on your health, both boosting your mood and helping you stay productive. Below are a few tips to help you stay busy by brightening your home for Spring.
Create a plant corner. Nothing lightens a home quite like houseplants. Create a collection of greenery in a few dedicated spots, choosing the right ones for the light levels. Don’t have much of a green thumb? Faux plants add a similar touch.
Repaint a wall – or two. Whether you choose a new hue or stick to your current color, a fresh coat of paint can brighten up any living space. Tackle one wall or all for a spruced up new look – and consider switching to a lighter shade to create a brighter atmosphere.
Use fruit as a centerpiece. For a fresh and unexpected take on traditional flower arrangements, carefully arrange a fruit bowl as a colorful and eye-catching centerpiece. Apples, pineapples, baby melons and oranges are great choices. You can also use smaller citruses like kumquat as “gravel” in flower vases or candle holders. Just keep an eye on freshness and change things out frequently.
Junk the junk drawer. Your “junk drawer” – that space that you throw odds and ends in to declutter your counters – may be weighing you down. Those dried-out pens have probably been in there for years, and you don’t need all of those to-do lists from 2019. Now is the perfect time to tackle your junk drawer and see how much lighter your kitchen feels.
Clean the windows. If you want to brighten your home, you have to make a conscious effort to let the light in – quite literally. Whether you hire a cleaning service or you get to work yourself, make sure both the inside and outside of the windows are attended to. Allow the pollen season to wrap up before you tackle the project.
Change the drapes. Let the light in by changing your drapes to sheer panels or linen-based materials. Additionally, change your bedding to something less heavy than winter down comforters. A bright floral bedspread can add a pop of seasonal cheer as well.
Add a touch of the unexpected to your routine chores and WFH schedule with the above tips. And, remember to clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily!
