Don’t Rely on Luck – 3 Ways to Avoid Spreading Germs in the Office

0

St. Patrick’s Day may be coming up, but you shouldn’t rely on the luck of the Irish when it comes to staying healthy. Of course, washing your hands frequently and staying home when you’re sick can prevent the spread of germs, but those aren’t the only useful tips. Here are three additional ways to avoid spreading germs in the office:

  1. Keep the Office Cool

A warm environment is the perfect incubator for germs to breed, meaning a heated office can be a winter wonderland for viruses. Instead of cranking the heat up high in your office when you’re chilly, try bringing a light jacket to wear instead. This way, the office stays cool, but you can still be comfortable. Additionally, it can helpful to open the windows every now and then to keep fresh air flowing. Cooler temperatures and proper ventilation can greatly reduce the number of germs in an office.

  2. Keep Hand Sanitizer at Your Desk

Your office may have a communal hand sanitizer, but keeping a personal bottle at your desk can be helpful while trying to stay healthy. Not only will sanitization be easily accessible and require little to no effort to use, but keeping hand sanitizer close by can also be a great reminder to use it in general. Plus, your personal sanitizer bottle will only have your germs on it – not everyone’s in the office.

  3. Clean the Forgotten Areas

Door knobs, light switches, the thermostat – what do these all have in common? They are likely to be forgotten during a traditional office cleaning. Door knobs especially are often touched multiple times a day without regard to when they were last cleaned. It’s beneficial to take some time and sanitize these commonly forgotten areas, as well as any others you feel are heavily used in your office. Sometimes, it really is the little things in life (that can make you sick!).

A clean environment can mean the difference between staying in bed sick and having a productive day at work. The good news? These tips can also be used to keep yourself healthy at home.
